As many cigar aficionados have noted, including the likes of Zino Davidoff, Nicolas Foulkes and Edward Sahakian, thin ring gauges have progressively been petering out of Havana’s production line and there are significantly less thin cuban cigars for sale. One just has to take a look at the list of releases over the years and compare the amount of ring gauges over 50 with those under and see that there are less small ring gauges on the market today.
Reports claim that from the year 2004-2015 has seen a steady increase in the amounts of cuban cigars for sale with larger ring gauges, stating that ring gauges ranging from 50-55 represent half of the market.
Some say that it’s Habanos’ way of giving the people what they want, but we understand that many people still enjoy the slighter cigars and miss many which have now been taken out of the current portfolio.
So why would you choose a thinner ring gauge? In the current quick paced lifestyle with so many things to do, see and be, thinner ring gauge cigars give you the opportunity to enjoy a cigar without the need to spend almost two hours sitting with it.
We’ve collated a small list of the cigars we think should satisfy those people’s needs:
La Gloria Cubana Medaille d'Or No. 4 comes packaged in an 8-9-8 box of 25 Cuban cigars for sale, which is one of our favourite presentations. Its vitola is a Palmitas which measures at 152mm by a 32 ring gauge. It emits elegance, both in its size and the band that adorns it.
We recommend smoking the No.4 a little slower so as to appreciate its subtle flavours such as cedar, hazelnut and floral notes. An exquisite cigar which provides around 50 minutes of pure smoking pleasure.

The Hoyo de Monterrey Le Hoyo du Maire is very popular amongst beginners and aficionados, as it has consistently proven to be very easy to smoke with excellent combustion qualities and a light to medium profile. Unexpectedly complex, it’s a slighter cigar that should be in everyone’s humidor. The vitola is known as an Entreactos, which measures 100mm by 30, making it one very slight and sophisticated cigar.
